#49. How to manually update Moto G to Android 5.0 Lolipop without rooting

Motorola had recently made an official announcement about the android  Lolipo update for some of its device. This includes  Moto G 2014 XT1063 & XT 1064. The best part is that it comes with all the goodness of the new android and is officialy released by Google. Eventhough Google had already provided the latest firmware updates to its users,  there are many users who haven't yet recieved the update. So let me provide you with some information for manually updating your Moto G to lolipop . ( This Procedure dosen't involve rooting your device ).

Before you start the procedures for updating, make some precuations like

  • Backup all the data of your device by the below mentioned methods (the method of backup in anyway doesn't affect updating process)
   1. SMS
For this you can use  " SMS BACKUP AND RESTORE    APP " which can be directly  downloaded  from google playstore

  2. CONTACTS
Sync your contacts with your Gmail account so that you will not lose any contacts eventhough there is some problem with your handset occours. It is the safest way to store your contacts.

  3.CALL LOG
Use Call Log and Restore app

  4. Images, Songs, Videos and all other files
Move all the files (images, music , videos etc) to your external SD card or transfer the data to a PC

  •       Make sure that your device has atleast 50% of battery life so that it stays on till the updation process is completed . Also enable USB Debugging which you can see in the settings.

After Taking the above mentioned precautions, lets start with the procedure for updating

  1. Download  Android 5.0 Lolipop OS Package to your computer. after downloading the zip file, transfer it to your handset.
  2. Now turn of your device so that it can be entered in the boot loader/ recovery mode
  3. Press and hold Volume up , Volume down button and Power button together till the recovery screen or boot loader appears.
  4. You can now navigate through the options by volume up and down button and power button for selecting. Select the Recovery option and your device will now run in recovery mode.
  5. When the device boots in the Android's System recovery select "apply auto update from SD card " option and then place the zip file which you have downloaded and follow the instructions.
  6. it will take some time for updating ( about 3-5 minutes ) and after updating process has finished, the system will reboot automatically.
If there is any problem in Updating by this method, please let us know in the comments.
